Life Cycle Assessment
Life cycle assessments (LCAs) inventory all inputs and outputs associated with a product from extraction all the way to disposal. From there, LCA impact assessments allows one to quantify impacts to soil, water, and air, and all other associated impacts at each step. The purpose of the LCA process is to identify "hotspots" along the product's life cycle with room for improvement. Learn more about LCA here.
B Corp Certification Assistance
B Corp Certification can be a wonderful asset, particularly to small-to-medium size enterprises. PSC can assist in the process of obtaining certification, whether it be for an enterprise starting from scratch, or one seeking renewal (and obtaining a higher score on the B Impact Assessment). Learn more about B Corp Certification here.
Sustainability Reporting
Quantifying current sustainability standing (efficiency, resource/energy use, emissions, and so forth), identifying forward-looking goals, and adhering to a structured yet easily understandable approach in communicating such components.
Waste Management
PSC can assist in strategizing and implementing zero-waste or low-waste tactics at facilities of all scales. While waste management is often a part of any sustainability evaluation, it may be particularly pertinent for industries such as food production and service, construction, and other similar enterprises that often entail large quantities of waste (and associated loss of resources, increased costs, and overall reduced efficiencies).
Clean Energy
This semester, the Clean Energy team partnered with Wharton Undergraduate Energy Group (WUEG) to consult with Penn Sustainability on the possibility of bringing solar panels to campus. Penn Sustainability is considering constructing EV charging stations powered by solar on Penn parking garages. In collaboration with WUEG, we have spearheaded a financial feasibility study on the solar panels and are also completing an initiative map in regard to Penn Sustainability’s strategy in raising awareness for Penn’s clean energy goals.
